RESIDENTS

AGAINST

PLASTICS
INCINERATOR

Protect our air, our children, & the Sonoma County community from toxic pollution.

We only have until October 3

A plastics incinerator company is on the verge of opening its doors in the SOMO Village community of Rohnert Park, Ca. Allowing this toxic facility to operate in the middle of our residential areas and directly next to a school is an unconscionable act that has prioritized private gain over public health. We only have until    October 3 to ensure this doesn’t happen.

Why you should care

A hazardous plastics incinerator is proposed next to schools & homes - despite zoning laws that forbid it.
  • Community Health Risk  Toxic emissions include dioxins, lead, arsenic, and microplastics linked to cancer, asthma and other respiratory illnesses, birth defects, and neurological damage such as Alzheimer’s.

  • Hazardous & Experimental  Flammable fuel stored near homes and schools and in an earthquake zone.

  • Decreased Property Values $

  • Insurance Risks  Massive insurance premium hikes — or even loss of coverage.

  • Rohnert Park zoning doesn't allow incineration  Under both federal and California law, pyrolysis is treated as incineration, which has significant permitting, CEQA, and zoning implications.

  • No Transparency or Trust  This project was approved by the city without a full Environmental Impact Report, no proper resident notice, and no emissions data from prior operations. Issuing a permit now would unlawfully circumvent CEQA review and deprive the public of required environmental disclosures.

  • Investor's record  In 2019, American Biodiesel, Inc. (dba Community Fuels) — where CEO of SOMO Group, LLC Brad Baker served as acting chairman — was convicted in federal court of Clean Water Act violations for discharging methanol-contaminated wastewater and falsifying sampling results.

  • Community Opposition  More than 6,000+ Sonoma county residents strongly object, citing violations, lawsuits, and a lack of trust in Resynergi.

The bottom line - This facility brings toxic pollution, fire hazards, financial risks, and zoning violations — with NO benefit to our community.

Plastic Pyrolysis (Incineration) is TOXIC

and it's NOT new

Pyrolysis is a type of "chemical recycling," which is today mostly used as a euphemism for an old and dirty practice: incineration. It requires plastic to be torched with extreme heat to create synthetic crude oil. It doesn’t turn plastic into new plastic nor reduce demand for virgin plastics but instead produces fossil fuels that are then burned, contributing to air pollution and global warming.

Gain deeper insight into the associated risks from an independent expert, Dr. Veena Singla, Ph.D., of UCSF. A former EPA appointee under both the Trump and Biden administrations, Dr. Singla presented on the health, air quality, and soil impacts of pyrolysis during the Credo High School Board Meeting in August.
